Oh man….another video site to completely kill our productivity. First it was things like Youtube and Funny or Die; then it was Hulu. Now it is MTV Music (which looks like it is using the same player as Hulu). There are endless videos and one of the great features is that when you are watching a video you can link to other videos by the same director, artist, label, album….
In these uncertain times people cling to what they know. You go for the basics: from the Ramen noodle and cereal to being a little easier on the gas peddle. When it comes to your clothes, you look for the classics: something that will look good in 10 years. We’ll, if your old dunks have worn through, then we have just the pair to fit the bill. These things are as basic and true as you can get. From 15 to 50, shorts, denim, this shoe can cover all the bases, and the price is oh so nice:
You are probably familiar with The Grey Album by a then relatively unknown DJ Danger Mouse, who has since gone on to become one half of Gnarls Barkley. Taking a hint from this album, Mick Boogie and Terry Urban have come out with Viva La Hova bringing together Jay Z and Coldplay. We are only about half way though listening to it, but it’s definitely worth a free download. Click the picture above for more.
From the creators of Bootleg Sessions, Ride/Relax Productions are in the midst of producing another fixed gear-orientated documentary titled Empire. Featuring help from Mishka NYC and Brooklyn Machine Works, the movie will outline bike culture and riding in New York City. A timeline for the documentary’s release has not been set, but stay tuned for more details.
Some nice cinematography here - really like the title fade in at the begining. The traffic/fixie/fast music thing can quickly get old, but the film really gives you that feel of flying though downtown Manhattan. On that note…stay tuned for a special creation here at the shop:
Since Nike deliveries are backed up for Holiday (only Quickstrike and AF1 product has shipped this month) we through we would give you a look at a style coming soon:
As if you didn’t already have enough to do this weekend, our boy Picnic is teaming up forces with Picaso and Tahiti for one more night to form the force known at PPT. Quick magazine convinvced the trio to put on one last show for the city of Dallas, since their split was pretty abrupt after the release of their sophmore album ‘Denglish‘. The show is at the Loft (make sure to be there the night before for our Klever Halloween show), 18+, doors open at 8pm, but you can read right?
Here is a premium styling of the infamous Air Force 1. You know we don’t go to heavy into the world of Forces, but these are an exception. Perfect for dressing things up with the Holiday season approaching.
You might have seen us referencing The Brilliance website a few times. Besides being 1/3 run by Chuck Anderson, who helped us with our logo, it is a great source for off the wall news that you never knew you needed to know. A while back we were looking through the interviews section of their site and came across a video interview with Heron Preston. That name definitely isn’t familiar to most out there, but once you start reading about his accomplishments, you’ll find that he has likely been involved with a project that you know about. Take a sec to listen to the interview:
Freshness Mag took some time to interview him as well. Here is an excerpt:
The site is basically a representation of your self and your vantage point. With business advice on how to make and distribute product or website protection for novice internet users you are breaking new ground by discussing the behind the scenes work that is usually left edited from the success story columns. What do you think the value of your work in this area will be?
I’ve come to learn that major media today have not realized what a lot of the youth really want. Every fucking magazine and online blog focuses way to much on the latest trend or product line that’s about to surface. I don’t even care about that stuff anymore because there is so much of it. I will hear about that from my friends, and if it interests me, ill then look into it. The entrepreneurial bug is striking at an earlier age these days, but no one is supplying the demand to the business hungry youth. What I’d like to see is what these companies did to become who they are today, and what these companies are doing to stay in business. I want to read about, and visually see that process. Everyone loves success stories. They are so inspirational. People are nosey. They want to see a behind the scenes look. The only piece of media in our culture that I’ve seen take this step into the business arena has been The Royal Magazine led by David Gensler. A magazine here and there will do a piece on what I’m talking about. They’ll do a “HOT JOBS” section, and focus on someone like Steve Stoute or Come Chantrel, but that’s it. I’m glad to see what David is doing and he is going to be a leading character in pushing this movement. I’ll get emails from kids asking me HOW they can start their own t-shirt line. Major companies that have great followings don’t show kids how to turn their creativity into business realities. I used to be that kid, and still am. What if Futura taught a business class? He’s not just a world renowned artist, he’s also a successful businessman. How popular do you think it would be? In my opinion, it would be genius!! How successful would the learning outcomes be for the students? I think they’d be priceless. What if James Jebbia started a monthly zine on business in creative atmospheres, and got a gang of young influential designers, business owners and hustlers to be the contributors? It does not have to be on some complicated business jargon because sometimes the best way to communicate is to keep it simple. There is so much opportunity out there to change lives and make money. I don’t know what’s going on. I’m disappointed. I want to make a change and that’s exactly what I’m up to with HeronPreston.com. I want to show people that yes I am like you, and yes, it’s ok to be different in such an intimidating arena. I party hard, but I also go to school, do my work, and stay intelligently productive.
Hopefully you are inspired (for at least 30 minutes) to get out there and make something happen.

Nike did a ton of releases during the Olympics with Japanese company Loopwheeler. The attention to detail in their fabric is unreal. To get the scoop on the process there is a translated interview on their site. They create sweatshirts, which is their specialty, in very limited quantities, but it looks like they applied the fabric to a tech backpack. This thing is looking good, with the waterproof zips and all. Wonder how quickly it gets dirty though…
