We all know about the ubiquitous Urban Outfitters, but have you seen the new coolest spot coming to a town near you? Let me introduce Urban Counterfeiters. It sort of like the original Urban, but it’s been tweaked a little….totally different though.
Saw last week that our friend Picnic heard that one of his projects PPT was nominated for a Grammy Award in three categories:
Best Rap Performance by a Duo or a group - Work It Out- PPT
Best Rap Song – Work It Out – PPT
Best Rap Album – Tres Monos In Love – PPT
All the best to Picnic and the rest of the crew. We wish you all the luck! Go out and see these guys sometime. Also, they havent announced it, but they are also nominated for Best Costume by a Rap Group:
For all you people who come in the shop asking if we have the ‘kanye’ glasses:
Here something from the accessories department. When a few years back one would be one pair of sunglasses every couple of years, we see these days people getting a new pair seasonal, depending on what is the latest out there.
Most of you should have seen these sunglasses in one of Kanye Wests recent videos, the Shutter Shades. Shutter Shades, offers now the sunglasses without glass in several bold colorways. Since they go for only 24.99 USD, its is a funny accessory to have! You can purchase them here.
Keep in mind that Kayne had his glasses custom made in France.
The real ‘people in the know’ know that while everyone at the VMAs was wearing ridiculous shutter shade knockoffs that were made of cardboard, Kanye was wearing some top secret shades that will be making their way to Centre in January of next year. We’ll keep you updated.
Next is the infallible man from above, Kanye. Though we love to critique, what he is doing right now is miles above anything else near the Top 40 so props are due. Anyway, he’ll be here on the 9th at the LG Action Sports Championship, which will be gracing the dump we all known as Reunion Arena. Get your tickets HERE.
(we like the flannel)
Finally, Aesop Rock who will be headlining the Loft on November 16th.
The folks over at Friend and Stranger pointed us to an interesting expose done by New York Magazine. In the issue covers what they see as New York’s 25 most influential living designers, though as they put it:
It was a mighty struggle to narrow it down, of course, but our pages aren’t infinite (this is a visual issue after all). We squeezed in 25 more luminaries who’ve also adjusted our collective lens.
Check out the launch page HERE and be sure to read through the piece on Massimo and Lilla Vignelli, who you might not have heard of, but if you have ever navigated NYC or flown on commercial airlines, you have probably been engaged by their designs. Other designers include Marc Jacobs, Martha Stewart…..
“Once again Medicom and Daftpunk get together on a Bearbrick Set. Of course the set consists of two figures. This time in order to get your hands onto the set you have to purchase the Daft Punk “Alive 2007″ CD in Japan. The CD releases the 19th of November. The set is limited to 3000 pieces worldwide. Via Highsnobiety.
“Carried only at Harrod’s room of luxury, this case is covered in perch skin and lined with lambskin, and filled with some of the rarest Dom Pérignon Rosé vintages: one bottle of Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage 1966, two bottles of Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage 1986 and three bottles of Dom Pérignon Rosé Vintage 1996. Price? 70,000 Euros.”
Hey, just got word that Sneaker Freaker added Centre to their Global Shopping Guide. If you aren’t already familiar with the original sneaker magazine published out of Australia, then check out their WEBSITE.
A friend just tipped us off to these amazing vintage inspired glasses. About as classic as they get, Moscot, a NYC original for over 90 years, has resurrected some styles from their 40s catalog. Th shades have been sported by anyone from Buddy Holly to Henry Kissinger so they wreak of iconic. Check out some of the styles and head to their WEBSITE to purchase or see more:
“The Moscot optical roots were first planted by Sol Moscot’s father Hyman. After his arrival from Eastern Europe via Ellis Island in 1899, he began selling ready-made eyeglasses from a pushcart on Orchard Street on the Lower East Side of Manhattan. After establishing himself in the neighborhood as one of the local opticians he rented a retail space at 94 Rivington Street in 1915…”
Alright, this has all gone too far. Apparently, the folks over at Segway (the ones who brought you the least revolutionary transporation revolution) have teamed up with legendary Italian car-maker and licensing whore, Ferrari, to paint a regular Segway red, apply a badge and charge $12,000. Brilliant.
The scooter doesn’t go any faster and has no additional amenities. Added to that, scientists have recently discovered that, technically speaking, no one in the world can look cool on a Segway.*
This has to be the weakest ‘collaboration’ I have ever seen. As one commenter on Engadget said “whoever is buying these things needs a rabbit punch in the face.” My sentiments exactly. Oh, if you want to buy one, feel free to check out Ferrari’s online store. Then head over to Centre to recieve one free high five!
*Sorry, you got me. While very true, this hypothesis hasn’t been confirmed by independent scientific analysis.
We just received our first shipment from Penfield, which included two nylon jackets, one heavy flannel and one waterproof zip hood (yes, I did say waterproof). Our favorite have to be the Skiff jackets, which are pefect for the Texas winters.
Penfield Skiff - Night Camo ($95.00)
The Skiff is a classic waterproof windbreaker with a great cut. The jacket features a fleece lined collar and pockets, under-arm vents, waterproof zippers, an exterior napoleon pocket and an asymmetrical hem to keep your back covered when riding a bike, etc.
Wanted to let you guys know that we have just received our first shipment from the Italian label Pharmacy. Photos will be up shortly, but first take a look at their new store that just opened in Milan.
“A mixture of an atomic bunker and the garage of your personal spaceship where raw concrete and unrefined wood suggest a post-industrial atmosphere inspired at Pharmacy’s latest collection “Sci Fi Fever”. The electric system runs along the walls through all-steel tubes spaced out by industrial switches. The writings on the wall of the mezzanine quote real comments people (fans and not-fans) left on PHCY’s website! The shop’s window is dominated by an impressive missile. The shiny white surface and the PHCY rosette play down it’s dramatic symbolism and emphasize it’s pure aesthetic value.
The store, while featuring lots of cold attributes such as concrete and other industrial features still reflects an overall warm atmosphere. Congratulations to the brand for this impressive move and translation of their company philosophy into a store.”
Found a really interesting article done on Conde Naste’s Portfolio.com site profiling 36 year-old Tomoaki Nagao, more commonly known as Nigo, the man behind the label Bathing Ape. There are plenty of mixed emotions about the brand, there is no doubt he is an alluring character. The guy could probably be considered the foremost collector of pop culture in the world. In the article, which is a really detailed one spanning some 6 online pages, you’ll find details about the innerworkings of the brand as they sit at the crossroads of being a cult hit and, potentially, a major, publicly-traded fashion brand. Well worth the read…
Check out these new Martin Margiela sunglasses dubbed “L’incognito”. The sunglasses are being produced by Italian company Marcolin, who is responsible for a lot of luxury eyewear from the likes of Tom Ford and Roberto Cavalli. While these shades are probably only appropriate for the European techno floors (and who knows how they stay on) they are a fun to look at.
Brought to you by our friends over at Cyana Lab that have recently launched their new blog Cyana Trendlab. Take a look, and tell them we said hello.
